They handle - great, actually. They can manage a little more acceleration in any given direction than a human can handle without blacking out. Raptors - that's what I fly - are a little heavier than Vipers, but it's because they're not just guns and engines.

Glorious Heritage Class cruisers are designed for close sun flies, so they can take quite a bit of damage. Not without repercussions, but they can.
