I've always had a soft spot for pilots. Most of my closest friends are pilots. And my Mom was, too.

You an only child, or...?

Only child. My mother was a shuttle pilot on the planet Tarn Vedra, so I didn't grow up in space the way some pilots' children do. Like my other pilot friend, Beka Valentine, did.

How 'bout you? Flying run in the family?

Oh, no. My mother was a farmer. My father was a businessman who became a farmer when he met my mother. I had a lot of brothers, there wasn't much money to go around, so I enlisted to pay for school.
